Celebrating Motherhood in All Its Diversity and Richness Through ‘Cycles’ Exhibition

Hello, I’m excited to announce that as co-curator of the upcoming exhibition “Cycles: The Stages of Motherhood” at MIFA Gallery, I invite you to join us in exploring the diverse and complex experiences of motherhood through art. The exhibition will run from May 4th to May 31st, 2023, with an opening reception on May 4th from 6–9 pm.

My co-curator, Elkin Canas, and I have brought together the works of 33 artists from different backgrounds and cultures to showcase a range of styles and media. From painting and sculpture to photography, textile, and mixed media, the artworks in the exhibition offer unique perspectives on the theme of motherhood and its many stages.

We’re thrilled to feature artists such as Daniel Acero “Politics,” Laetitia Adam-Rabel, Michelle Bardino Vela, Maritza Caneca, Rosee Camafreita, Christa Capua, Bella Cardim, Toa Castellanos, Patricia L. Cooke, Luis Crump, Marine Fonteyne, Fernanda Froes, Sonia V. Hidalgo, Tere Jessurum Uribe, Oscar Jordan, Zura Lagarde, Laura Marsh, PJ Mills, Aurora Molina, Paola Mondolfi, Valeria Montag, Kim Moore, Aixa Oliveras, Wendy X. Ordóñez, Cynthia Passavanti, Evelyn Politzer, Ileana Rincón-Cañas, Lifrancis Rojas, Mirena Suarez, Gloria Vélez, Laura Villarreal, Yochi Yakir-Avin, and Sílvia Yapur.

Motherhood has been a prominent theme throughout art history, and “Cycles” offers a contemporary and diverse perspective on this timeless subject. Through their works, the artists in the exhibition explore the joys, challenges, and complexities of motherhood and the various stages that women experience on their journey as mothers.

I’m proud to participate in this project, which celebrates the diversity and richness of motherhood experiences. We hope that “Cycles” will spark meaningful conversations and reflections on this critical theme and that visitors will be moved by the power of the artworks on display.
