Body art originated in ancient civilizations, indigenous ethnic groups, and tribal societies in Australia, Africa, and America. They have painted over the body with lines and shapes as part of their cultural heritage in a ritual that seeks a balance between nature, beauty, and the universe. The predecessor of the makeup, colored clay, was applied on faces as protection. In this case, I am pushed toward hiding using acrylic paints and Adobe After Effects.

This project is a self-portrait video where I intuitively apply body painting to my frustration about social injustices. This action is a metaphor for how humankind has tried to hide what is inevitable, ignoring contemporary issues such as the invisibility of queer history and domestic abuses. Some people pretend they don’t see or hear if something doesn’t affect them directly.
