Off Basel Miami, A Two-Month Exhibition

The OFF|BASEL project was created by Art | Design Gallery to allow a selected number of international artists to live, experience, and feel the atmosphere of an essential art period in Miami, the MIAMI ART WEEK, but into a two-month exhibition outside the circuit bringing freedom to the artists, without restricted rules, with a more extended period of exposure to their works from Dec 2nd, 2019 to Mar 2nd, 2020.

The curator of the Latin American Art Pavilion, Anaibis Yero, was responsible for assembling artworks of the artists Alemao, Andreas Franke, Gaia Dakini, Dmitry Zhitov, Marco Caridad, Fabio Polesi, Patricia Lopes, Gustavo Muci, Flavia, Lima, Juzé, Rosy Lofer, Gustazara Monteiro, Dawn Kelmenson, Luca Bornoffi, Suzy Fukushima, Gui Calli, Marcela Solano, Malu Moleira, Sergio Free, Tiago Magro, Ricardo Casado, Pierre Britt, and Teo Beceiro. Yero was able to show a humanitarian evolution that began figuratively and colorful but faces an abstract and optimistic ending.

The One Club for Creativity Miami sponsored the welcoming reception by creating an outdoor installation by the Miami-Based Venezuelan-Born Artists Mantico and Marco Caridad. The installation was called “Happiness,” and their Hispanic upbringing inspired it. “They say that heaven and hell are not places but states of mind…The vehicle to express it eloquently? Childhood. Suddenly the process of intellectual and emotional deconstruction”, mentioned Mantico.

The installation “Happiness” invited the public to paint on t-shirts and hang them on the clothesline. Artists such as Gustavo Fernandez, Dalia Berlin, and Rafael Vera left their mark by painting live. “Happiness was a reminder that childhood and all the wonderful things it involves is not just time but an attitude,” mentioned Mantico. On the other hand, Caridad states that “We were very risky in trying to do such a big installation in just three days.”
